iPad First Impressions
I've been an iPad owner for just over five hours now. Surprisingly UPS delivered my new iPad at 10 AM. I was very pleased that it came so early. I connected it to my computer hooked up iTunes and then was able to sync my pictures, my applications, and my music to the device.
I then began using the applications that were designed to run on the iPhone versus the iPad. I was quite impressed with the application doubling feature, which fills the iPhone sized applications to almost the full size of the iPad screen.
It was quite a good job of upscaling graphics; I was very impressed.
Next I decided to start playing with some native iPad applications. It was amazing. The look and feel, plus the graphics, and the intuitive interface of the touchscreen controls was an incredible experience.
I set up my Gmail and Hotmail e-mail accounts very quickly; the new mail interface on the iPad is faster and easier then using the iPhone to check your e-mail. Surfing the Internet on the iPad is so much quicker than using the iPhone with the screen being double the size, plus the iPad speed being over three times as fast as my iPhone 3GS I was blown away by how quick pages loaded.
Watching video on the iPad is an enjoyable experience. Once again coupled with the larger screen size and quality of the display, viewing video particularly high definition video is quite the experience.
In closing, I am sure all have much more to say about the iPad as I use it longer. One of the really cool things I enjoyed about this is the fact that this entire blog post was written by speaking into the iPad using one of the three applications. If I had chosen to type it the on-screen keyboard particularly when the iPad is oriented in horizontal mode is almost as good as typing on a physical keyboard.

It's a Geek's Life
I barely slept last night, and arose around 7. I've been following stories and news feeds on the web around the release of the Apple iPad, and this has been interspersed with feverish checking of the UPS tracking of my unit, which, as of 8:03 AM this morning had arrived at my areas local UPS distribution center! I've really got my Geek on this morning!
I told the kids earlier in the week I would not be leaving the house until the iPad was delivered. I pounds a bowl of food for the kitty earlier and there's a box of Pop Tarts, Bread, and sandwich makings if the kids are hungry!

Recipe - Loaded Healthy Hot Dogs
Today for dinner I made a couple of loaded hot dogs for dinner. They were delicious and about 80 calories each.
For the simple recipe, read on:
Ingredients (along with calories). Makes one hot dog.
Multiply ingredients by number of hot dogs you wish to make.

1 Hebrew National 97% Fat Free Hot Dog 30
1 Slice Aunt Millie's Whole Grain, High Fiber, Low Calorie Bread 35
1/4 cup Refrigerated Sauerkraut 4
1 Refrigerated Dill Pickle Spear 5
2 tbs No Calorie Added Sweet Relish (see below for easy way to make this) 5
Mustard (I used Jalapeno mustard) 0
Crushed Red Pepper Flakes 0
Celery Salt 0
Preparation:
To make the No Calorie Added Sweet Relish get a jar of dill relish which is unsweetened. Add 2 tablespoons of Spelnda sweetener to it.
Lightly toast the bread and broil or pan fry the hot dog. Place the hot dog on the bread with the dill pickle spear next to it. Apply mustard to taste. Top with sauerkraut and relish, then sprinkle to taste with red pepper flakes and celery salt. Enjoy!
I find the refrigerated brands of pickles, sauerkraut, and relish taste far better than the varieties that are not. They cost a little bit more but in my opinion they are well worth it.
Spicy Variation: Instead of Mustard, after the all the ingredients are together sprinkle 1/3 tsp of Splenda or other calorie free sweetener across top of hot dog contents. Then add (to your degree of heat) your favorite gourmet hot sauce. I used some Chile Habanero sauce my friend Rob at work procured for me. It was awesome. Mixing the "heat with sweet" as Bobby Flay often says makes for some excellent flavors!

Always Keep The Warranty
My Positive Experience
with Delta Faucets
About five year ago when I moved into this house after the divorce, I bought a lot of items to furnish my new home. I kept the receipts and warranty info for everything.
Last week the Delta Faucets chromed finish shower massage unit I bought to replace the aged shower head in my bathroom started having issues. The chrome wrapping on the flexible hose began unwrapping at the end the the hand held shower head, and since then it has developed a leak which will only get worse. Considering this unit has been used virtually every day of those five years, and sometimes more than once a day, I certainly think I got more than my money's worth of use from it.
I was going to go out and get a replacement but then I recalled that unit had a warranty so I went through my rather unique (don't ask) filing system and found it.
It was a lifetime warranty! I went to the Delta Faucets website and entered an inquiry into their customer feedback form on late on Wednesday, this morning I found a response that a replacement unit was on it's way!! The site had stated they would usually respond within two business days, and they easily met that commitment. Another plus for them in my book.
Talk about service! Great service! No hassle whatsoever, about 5 minutes of my time online was all it took to get a replacement sent. This type of excellent service is something that in this day and age happens way too infrequently in my book!
So, the next time you need anything that Delta Faucets sells, buy that brand!

The Worst Nightmare Ever
So, after a phone call last night with distressing news, I just could not get to sleep. I tossed, I turned, I finally turned on the TV and watched it until almost 4 AM. Finally I must have fallen asleep because....
I found myself at my father's wake. It was pretty much as I remember except the funeral home was a lot darker, and all the light was provided by candles which were flickering eerily The other mourners wee all seated, the women with their heads covers with black veils, the men all wearing hats, had their heads down so I could not see anyone's faces..
Because of the dim light, the walls of the funeral home were not visible which made the room seem even stranger, giving the illusion that the room was cavernous. As I walked up to my dad's casket I was filled with a cold sense of dread, of a certainty something horrible was about to happen.
I knelt down to pay my respects and looked at my father. His body was all shriveled and dessicated as if it had been buried for quite a while already, though his suit appeared to be in perfect condition as did his casket. This scared me particularly because no one else seemed to act as if this was anything but natural.
Suddenly his eyes opened and he sat up unnaturally fast and turned to me, gasping out "Let me die! Why won't you let me die!??"
I ran, screaming from the funeral home!
I awoke, shaken. I could not stand to stay in bed so I got up and went out into the living room. Another cold sense of deep dread hit me as I saw the casket sitting behind my couch, illuminated only by two large candles on tall stands, one at either end. I could not turn away as my father once again sat bolt-upright and repeated the same words!
I truly awoke at that point, terribly shaken. I thought about the dream, I knew he had been sick for along time.. but I can't fathom why he was asking to die, when he was already dead. I realize I was very upset about some family issues when I retired, but the dream in no way had anything to do with that.
It will soon be time for bed, and I am hoping my dreams will be more pleasant!

After five long years of service, particularly this past year where I used it over 150 days straight 90 minutes a day, my exercise bike is dying! It's been squeaking after the bearings heat up and the pedals have some play in the shaft. The ride also is nowhere as smooth as it has been. I was hoping it was just a case of needing some lubrication, but alas it's not that simple.
After today's ride I got on-line and started looking for repair parts. I took off all the covers and looked at the mechanism shown below:

Fortunately I was able to find a place on-line that still supplies parts for this model a Keys Fitness CM560R. For $54 a set of crank bearings and sleeves have been ordered. Should be an interesting repair job as the pulley and belt system is under a lot of tension with a very tight spring and of course I have no repair manual for the bike.
It should be quite the adventure, and if I can get it repaired I'll save the cost of a new exercise bike which would be a very good thing!
