Impossible Whopper Review

Impossible Whopper Patty:
630 Calories in sandwich, half from fat
$1 more than beef Whopper

Whopper Beef Patty:
677 calories in sandwich, half from fat

I tried the meatless Impossible Whopper today at my local Burger King.  I did not understand why after I ordered it the woman taking my order asked if I wanted bacon and cheese on it!  Seriously,  what's the point of selling a meatless burger and then pushing the addition of bacon and cheese?  I ordered it without ketchup so they'd have to make me a fresh one, received my order, and parked my car to partake.

Before taking a bite of the entire sandwich  I removed a small piece of the patty itself.  It looked like meat and had a similar feel. It was dry like an overcooked beef Whopper patty and the taste was reminiscent of meat.  Taking a bite of the of the entire sandwich and getting the rest of the veggies with the Impossible patty was pretty good.  The accompanying vegetables on the sandwich actually tasted fresher and more flavorful than they do with the beef parry, and it tasted a little more like meat than when I just tasted the patty by itself.

I know taste varies but I don't think any meat eater would mistake this for real beef but I can certainly see the draw for vegans and vegetarians for the Impossible meat substitute.   Vegans take note, the sandwich comes by default with mayonnaise so you'll have to ask for it without.

In closing, considering how much fat is in the Impossible Whopper,  and the fact it costs more I see no need to have it on a regular basis,  but I am pleased for those vegans and vegetarians who have this alternative.   Note the fine print in the Impossible Whopper commercials states 'For a limited time at participating locations' though Burger King is calling this a nationwide rollout.

One last thing, Burger King really should not be asking customers if they want cheese and bacon on their meatless Whopper. That's the only thing about the Impossible Whopper I found truly tasteless.

Fried Pasta is Heaven on Earth

It's no secret that one of my favorite things to eat is pasta, and one of my favorite things to do with leftover pasta is to fry it. You take a plate of leftover pasta that's already had sauce added to it, and you fry it in olive oil and fresh garlic. If you've never done this, you really, really need to. This batch I made had rigatoni pasta and pepperoni with my homemade sauce.

You could even make this with, ugh, jarred spaghetti sauce though I never have and never will.

Burger Time

I had a friend over for lunch.  I made us double wagyu beef burgers with two types of cheddar cheese, bacon, and mayo served on cheddar jalapeno bagels.  Delicious!

A New Journey Begins

For the past 10 years I've been riding my exercise bike every other day.  With the upcoming arrival of my granddaughter in early July I decided I really need to drop some weight, so for the past 3 weeks I have been riding my exercise bike twice a day.

Every other day in the morning I do the longer ride I've been doing plus a shorter ride in the evening, and every other day I do two shorter rides AM and PM that burn more calories than the longer ride.

I haven't really been watching my calories and this past three weeks I've lost 11 pounds.  Starting tomorrow I'm going to cut back on my calories on the days I'm eating alone.

If you had told me 3 weeks ago I'd be exercising twice a day I would have been incredulous and had a good laugh.

Wish me luck!
