The New Abnormal

Twas my first foray out into the public space since March 9th. while I've driven the Mustang a couple of times I haven't stopped anywhere but today I had to go to the UPS store. I arrived just as they were opening so there was no one waiting inside and the two workers there had masks on. There were signs on the door saying it was a federal requirement and if you didn't have a mask don't bother coming in. I got receipt for the packages I was sending back to AT&T and I was heading to exit the door just as another masked woman was about to come in. She backpedaled frantically without turning around  in her haste to avoid me as I exited. Outside there were other people, 99% of them wearing masks, and just about all of them were maintaining their distance from each other.

I decided on my way home to grab a burger and fries at McDonald's even though they would count for almost two thirds of my daily calories. People at the drive-thru and from what I could see inside behind the counter were all masked. I can't believe how good a just made Quarter Pounder tasted after not having a fresh one in almost four months. Talk about ambrosia LOL. I took the long way home and noticed people on the street jogging, little kids playing, where these people were alone they were not masked but the sight of a group of masked preteens playing on the street tugged at my heartstrings. I wonder how their parents got them to not take those masks off :-)

In any event it was a surreal experience. I'm going to see my daughter, Marcy, and Marcie's dad Mike July 3rd. I'm looking forward to that, but not with a bit of hesitation since my daughter works at a pharmacy, Mike at an auto shop, and Marcy goes to daycare. Since none of them have become sick and cases here in Michigan are on the decline, I think it's worth the risk. Still not planning to go to a restaurant anytime soon though, or get a haircut, and I'm perfectly content to watch my movies here at home.
